Black Men Rising/Jegna On-Line Connection
"Jegna" an African term meaning:
A SPECIAL PERSON WHO DEDICATES THEMSELVES TO PROTECT,
LOVE, NURTURE AND DEVELOP OUR YOUNG BY ADVANCING OUR PEOPLE, PLACES AND CULTURE.

Mission

To positively impact the lives of African American youth and their family by uniting them with caring adult men and women through the use of e-mentoring, providing adult support and learning opportunities that promote character development and life-enhancing values

Goal

Our goal is to bring information technology and cultural enhancement to the youth and families of our community. We can help do this by providing a platform for existing mentoring programs thru the use of our e-mentoring on-line software that is already installed on our website. Access to the website is free and we will provide you with the information to monitor your own e-mentoring program information. Information is safe and secure because you have the password and key. We hope that this adjunct to your program will provide you an easier way to compile information and to quantify existing info about your program. We will provide data collection tools that will be safe and accessible to your mentoring program

Philosophy

Teach and inspire traditional inherent values to youth and their families and how to apply them

to everyday life by using e-mentoring and information technology tools.  Provide youth and

their family with consistent, caring mentors online as well as the traditional mentoring concept.

Benefits

  • Mentees: The program will help young people to develop important life skills, learn about the world of work, plan for the future, improve school attitudes and performance and build self-confidence and own their own computer.
  • Mentors: In addition to providing mentors with the satisfaction of giving back to their community, community mentoring can help build community values virtual connectivity.
